Gas presenti in atmosfera, caratterizzati da lunghezze d'onda di assorbimento ed emissione che ricadono nello spettro della radiazione infrarossa. A causa di questa loro peculiarità danno luogo al fenomeno di surriscaldamento del clima terrestre, noto come "effetto serra". Alcuni gas serra possono essere di origine sia naturale sia antropica (vapore acqueo, anidride carbonica, ossido di diazoto, metano) mentre altri derivano esclusivamente dalle attività umane (clorofluorocarburi e altri alocarburi).
Gases present in the atmosphere, that absorb and emit radiation at specific wavelengths within the spectrum of infrared radiation. Because of this peculiarity, a warming of the Earth’s climate occurs, known as the greenhouse effect. Some greenhouse gases are both natural as well as of anthropogenic nature (water vapour, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane) while other are derived exclusively from human activities (chlorofluorocarbons and other halocarbons).
