European Bioplastics (EUPB) welcomes Italy’s draft legislative proposal on certified industrial compostable packaging. EUBP considers the proposal a positive and pragmatic signal for the sector. At a time when the market needs more predictable policy direction, the draft helps provide greater legal certainty at a critical moment and sends an encouraging message to companies investing in certified compostable solutions.
The Italian initiative is an important step in recognising the role of certified industrial compostable packaging in specific applications and in providing a clearer regulatory framework.
This is particularly relevant where compostability delivers a tangible functional benefit, such as packaging contaminated with food or difficult to sort. In this context, the proposal supports clearer recognition of compostable packaging in well-defined applications.
“We welcome the Italian draft proposal as a positive development for the sector” – said Lorenza Romanese, Secretary General of European Bioplastics –“Clear and workable rules are essential to support innovation, investment and market confidence.”
EUBP will continue to engage constructively with policymakers and stakeholders in support of a coherent policy framework for certified industrial compostable packaging.
