The term literally means sterile without microorganisms. In the pharmaceutical and medical industries, this condition is attainable. In the food sector, 100% absolute sterilization is never reached even when a food product undergoes sterilization processes. Foods, therefore, are never completely aseptic so in their case, the term “commercially sterilized” is used. On the other hand, packaging materials or the container can be completely aseptic before they are used for food packaging.
