Packaging system generally involving a flexible bag (plastic or plastic/aluminium film) and a rigid outer folding carton box for easy handling and storage. This concept is usually applied to liquid food (wine, juices, oil, egg-based products, concentrates for drinks, milk, ketchup, and other sauces for the foodservice, semi-finished products for the food industry) and non-food products (as detergents). The bag-in-box concept is mainly used in the packaging of fountain syrups. Bag-in-box packages are available in different formats, ranging from 3 to 20 litres, but they can reach up to 1000 litres. The advantage of this packaging concept is that the product is closed inside the bag (eventually fitted with spout closure for easy pouring), and never comes into contact with air, because during dispensing the bag collapses as contents are expelled without the need for air to be admitted.
