Machines that form cartons from flat blanks, fill and close them. Cartoning machines can be either vertical or horizontal according to the position of the carton that moves along the machine. When loose products are handled (like dry pasta), vertical cartoners are used, where the cartons are in upright position with respect to the moving direction; the cartons are filled by gravity from the top before being closed. In horizontal cartoners, the product is pushed into the carton from one side of the package. In both cases, the packages are closed by applying glue. This type of machine belongs to the wide family of form-fill-seal machines.
