In the food & beverage, chemical/pharmaceutical, electronic and packaging industries, high air purity is essential for preventing contamination of not only the product, but also the containers, tanks and processing machines the product comes into contact with. Specific to the packaging industry, any migration of oils and oily vapours onto the surface of packages that products come into contact with must be avoided. To ensure this, it is best to use compressors that operate without mineral oils.
Atlas Copco produces compressors with variable speed drive (VSD) that guarantee 100% Oil-Free air. They include compressors based on rotary screw and rotary tooth technology (ZR and ZT) that allow the flow of compressed air to be regulated according to actual processing needs, resulting both in a significant reduction in energy consumption and in plant operating costs, and with minimum environmental impact.

Thanks to their dual permanent magnet motor with adjustable speed and an advanced cooling system, the range of ZR 75-160 VSD+ water-cooled compressors enable energy savings up to 35%. This efficiency is due to the Elektronikon® Touch controller, which allows optimisation of compressor operation and constant monitoring of compressors, even remotely by PC/tablet or smartphone via the new Smartilink 2.0 system.
In February 2021, Atlas Copco ZR and ZT Variable Speed Oil-Free compressors received “Silicon-Free” certification in accordance with standard VDMA 24364 and with the maximum energy savings. Completing the array of certifications of these compressors are those related to the industrial process: Atlas Copco, in fact, was the first manufacturer to receive both the “Class Zero” certification relative to standard ISO 8573-1 as well as ISO 22000 certification.
