ASSEMBLA gruppo IMA Med Tech

The medical device industry demands assembly solutions capable of evolving alongside product complexity, regulatory requirements and variable production volumes. In response to these challenges, IMA MED-TECH has introduced ASSEMBLA, an engineer-to-order modular platform designed to support the complete product lifecycle of injectable devices, inhalers, diagnostics, wearables and ophthalmic systems.

ASSEMBLA is built on a single extendable frame expandable from 2 to 6 metres, configurable through interconnected modules arranged in horizontal, vertical or hybrid layouts. This structural approach allows the platform to be precisely tailored to specific process requirements, optimising both footprint and throughput without compromising compliance or traceability.
In terms of productivity, ASSEMBLA covers a range from 20 to over 500 parts per minute. The architecture supports a continuous growth path: semi-automatic units serve laboratory and clinical trial environments; automatic cells address small and mid-scale production batches; full industrial lines meet high and ultra-high-performance requirements. This scalability enables manufacturers to qualify a single platform at the development stage and scale it through to commercial production, minimising revalidation effort.

The platform is compatible with major programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and can be integrated with multiple transport technologies, including magnetic levitation systems. These integration capabilities are designed to simplify validation workflows by reducing interface complexity and standardising control architecture across configurations.

ASSEMBLA incorporates IoT connectivity, advanced process monitoring and pre-batch verification tools, enabling real-time data acquisition and traceability across production runs. These features support compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) and facilitate audit readiness throughout the device lifecycle.

Developed on the basis of more than 60 years of IMA industrial expertise, ASSEMBLA is positioned as a multi-device, multi-generation platform within the IMA MED-TECH portfolio, which also includes XPEN LAB for development and pilot production up to 20 ppm, and XPEN for industrial production up to 160 ppm. Together, these solutions form a structured offering that accompanies customers from early-phase manufacturing through to full-scale commercialisation.
