Acronimo di Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation of Chemicals, il sistema integrato di registrazione, valutazione e autorizzazione delle sostanze chimiche stabilito dal Regolamento europeo (CE) n. 1907/2006. Obiettivo principale del REACh è quello di migliorare la conoscenza dei pericoli e dei rischi derivanti dai "chemicals" già esistenti (introdotti sul mercato prima del settembre 1981) e nuovi al fine di assicurare un maggiore livello di protezione della salute umana e dell'ambiente. Il REACh pone una maggiore responsabilità a carico dell’industria europea per quanto riguarda la gestione del rischio e la trasmissione delle informazioni sulla sicurezza agli utilizzatori e, per le sostanze maggiormente pericolose, anche ai consumatori. I fabbricanti e gli importatori di sostanze chimiche devono registrare le sostanze che producono o importano in quantitativi superiori alla tonnellata annua. Gli utilizzatori devono applicare le misure per la gestione dei rischi legati a sostanze pericolose contenute nei Safety Data Sheets (fascicoli sui dati di sicurezza) del fornitore, e possono informare il fornitore circa l’utilizzo che fanno di una sostanza. In alternativa, gli utilizzatori possono elaborare la propria valutazione e trasmettere le informazioni all’Agenzia Europea per le Sostanze Chimiche (ECHA).
Acronym for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation of Chemicals, the integrated system for chemical substances established by European Regulation CE 1907/2006. The main objective of REACh is to increase the awareness of dangers and risks arising from chemicals already in existence (introduced to the market before September 1981) and new chemicals so as to ensure a higher level of protection for human health and the environment. REACh places the majority of the responsibility on the European industry for managing the risk and communicating safety information to users and, for highly dangerous products, also to the consumer. Manufacturers and importers of chemical substances must register any substances that they produce or import in quantities exceeding one ton per year. Users must apply the measures for risk management for dangerous substances that are contained in the Safety Data Sheets of the supplier and must inform the supplier as to the intended use of the substance. Alternatively, users can prepare their own evaluation and transmit this information to the ECHA, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
